Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel – A Review

Not too many people look forward to cleaning toilets and bathrooms. The task of cleaning more often during holiday visits by family and friends isn’t the most pleasant.  So I was enticed with the display at Sam’s Club and the promise of making the job easier.  The product was packaged in bulk which was convenient because I have more than one bathroom.

What the advertisement promised was Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel would take care of the tough work by preventing the build-up of lime scale and toilet rings. The product supplied a simple to use dispenser to stamp a gel disc onto the inside of your toilet bowl. The inconspicuous gel disc sits just under the rim. That means you have to apply high enough. There's really no need to touch the disc or the toilet bowl with your hand. This means is supposed to make Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel more sanitary than traditional clip-on bowl cleaners.

The product claims the gel disc will gradually dissolves with each flush, allowing a controlled release of cleaning solution and fragrance. Each disc is said to lasts up to one week and leaves no residue behind. Your toilet bowl will remain cleaner, longer—with practically zero effort. 

The bulk pack contains three packages. Each package contains:  One disposable, easy-to-use dispenser and one gel holder (gel holder contains six gel discs). The term gel disc is a misnomer. The dispenser is actually a syringe filled with gel. It’s notched so a pre-measured amount of gel is dispensed each time – provided you do it correctly, and don’t push out more.

I really do like the idea of not having to touch the product directly and using a "syringe/ plunger tool" to apply it. Not only is the delivery method of Scrubbing Bubbles toilet cleaning gel easy, it is pretty neat! You push the product against the inside bowl and it leaves a swirly dab of gel. Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel is a futuristic approach to the age old problem of having a clean, fresh smelling toilet.

The product is Easy to Use once I followed the directions and read them a couple times. It was extremely easy, simply push in the tube one notch to release a disc of gel about the size of a quarter near the inside rim of the toilet.

Smells Good and it Cleans:  The two fragrances are Fresh Mountain Morning and Citrus Scent. I preferred the citrus scent which I was surprised had a fresh fragrance for the product.  The scent is not overpowering, and doesn't make the bathroom smell like you just cleaned it with a pine cleanser.  Not only does the disc leave the toilet bowl smelling fresh, it cleans with each flush pretty well.  How well it cleans depends on the hardness and chemicals in your water system.  The toilet bowl should be cleaned before applying the gel for better results.

What I found is the bowl has to be cleaned but not as often. If you have a busy house, the gel may last 3-4 days, but definitely not 7 days. The catch in the ad say “up to 7 days” which means it could be less, and it is. I was persuaded by the potential I could "stamp on" a cleaning gel and that it would cling to the toilet.  I wouldn't have to touch anything. There would be no messy clip-on and it would "freshen and clean with each flush.  Overall, the toilets look cleaner than they would had I used nothing to clean it for an entire week.

The Scoop! I really wanted this product to work.  It was super easy and I didn't have to get my hands dirty.  I will not be buying the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Cleaning Gel — as often after the holidays.

• I guess I got lucky the first time, although I do think it depends on where you stamp the disc inside the bowl as to how long it last
