One Sucker One Blackberry
Trade-in and Trade-Up Program for BlackBerry by The Wireless Source is a scam.I decided to trade-up a pretty good, functioning Blackberry for a newer model. I went to the Blackberry website, found my carrier and continued with the trade-up process.
According the website, the Trade-in program is designed to reward BlackBerry® users for upgrading to a new BlackBerry® Smartphone, when trading in their old BlackBerry® Smartphone. I was comfortable with information, if not I would have given the phone to my son. I followed the directions which stated to get a free quote to determine the value of your used BlackBerry® Smartphone, purchase a new BlackBerry® Smartphone and mailing in the old phone with the receipt from the new phone. Just sit back, waiting for your my check to arrive. I had no reason to think the process wasn’t simple, safe and smart.
I ordered and received my new phone as noted in the screen shot. The old Blackberry was packed up and sent off with the required paperwork. I sat back and waited for my rebate check. Little did I know I gave away a good phone basically for free to a company to make a profit. The email sent by The Wireless Source stated they received an undamaged phone in working condition. The strange thing - everything was in the box except the purchase order for the new phone which qualified for the rebate – that’s according to The Wireless Source.Go figure! So I was to believe I packed three items and only two arrived – the voucher and the phone.
To date my rebuttal email has gone unanswered.
I challenge the claim there was no proof of purchase in the packaging. Included in that package besides the voucher for the trade-up was the copy of purchase from Boostmobile. If you received everything else why wasn't that found? There were two pieces of documentation in that box.
You were sent order form from warehouse - BRIGHTPOINT for a order dated 2011-08-01 with a FEDEX tracking number, and my information clearly documented. Also included was my order number, the Blackberry 9670 description, and 1800 number for Boostmobile. If you require another copy I will certainly send one. Provide a fax number to expedite the process.
Lessons Learned
Blackberry maybe a reputable company, but I question their third party association with thewirelesssource.com/. The Wireless Source, 794-A Industrial Court, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302 is run by Bob Sullivan, President & CEO. According to his bio, Sullivan has been the President and CEO of The Wireless Source, Inc. since he purchased the Cellular Division from Telesource Services, L.L.C. in October 1999. Peggy Brock bio, Return Authorizations Manager worked with The Wireless Source since 2001. She’s managed and worked in the Receiving Department.
In future I will keep my functioning cell phones and opt to pass them on to family members, and/or donate them to a reputable charity. When choosing an recycle company, it is important to find out more information about how they process and recycle the materials they collect.
